1 — FOOLS RUSH IN

Up until six months ago, when he had innocently embarked on a solitary retreat to review and reinvent his life in an isolated shack near Klamath Falls, Oregon, very little in Walter’s past forty-five years had prepared him for the bizarre situation he now faced…

 

2 — MOVING IN

It was a simple and straightforward lease agreement, giving either party the right to terminate the rental with thirty days written notice. Walter signed both copies and Ted did likewise, giving one back to Walter, who scanned it to learn Ted’s full name. “Ted Wilson, eh? Have I heard of you somewhere before?”…

 

3 — MEETING ABIGAIL

QUACK!” The noise caught him completely by surprise, jolting him out of his concentration, jerking his attention toward the trail to Ted’s house. There at the edge of the clearing was Abigail, looking right at him as if she expected a welcoming response to her greeting…

 

4 — RELATIONSHIP BUILDING

Sometime later, after he had begun his daily contemplation, Abigail arrived. He didn’t see her coming, but suddenly there she was, snuffling the mash he had left near her ‘favorite spot.’ She followed his trail, cautiously, eating as she went, until she got to the porch step…

 

5 — ABIGAIL’S GIFT

Susan, on the other hand, had apparently become more infected with the religious itch, and when the scratching of one church/doctrine/faith had failed to soothe it, she had looked elsewhere. He now found that idea appealing, so he began to identify his options…
